Career

NIJISANJI's first "Official Virtual Livers" became popular, so Ichikara Inc. opened a second round of auditions on 22 February 2018. Gilzaren was one of the character designs offered in those auditions. On 15 March 2018 the company announced its second generation of Virtual Livers. Gilzaren III debuted that month alongside Ienaga Mugi, Mononobe Alice, Kenmochi Toya, Morinaka Kazaki, Fushimi Gaku, Suzuka Utako, Fumino Tamaki, Ushimi Ichigo and Yuhi Riri.

His channel kept growing even though he streamed only now and then. On one occasion he went more than a year without streaming and then held a surprise stream on 28 February. The phrases "Gil-sama haishin" (Gil-sama livestream) and "tesuto haishin" (livestream test) then entered Japan's trending topics on Twitter. Many NIJISANJI members joined that stream as guests, including Tsukino Mito, Mayuzumi Kai, Mononobe Alice, Fuwa Minato, Petra Gurin, Sister Claire, Lize Helesta, Fumino Tamaki and Akabane Youko. On 29 December 2022 he made a surprise appearance in 3D at the "NIJISANJI Unit Music Festival 2022", where he again became a trending topic in Japan.

Activities

Streaming style

Gilzaren III streams far less often than most of the agency's talents, sometimes going several months between broadcasts. His live audience is still usually large compared with his channel size. The gaps between his streams have become a running joke among other VTubers. When he posts in another streamer's chat, viewers often fill it with requests for him to stream. His streams are mostly free talk and gaming. In later years he has also posted a regular series of short morning videos called "Asa Gil" (Morning Gil). He has also taken part in group game collaborations, such as R.E.P.O. streams with the NIJISANJI Occult Research Club in 2025.

He has been a member of several unofficial groups within NIJISANJI. One is Kangumi, with Shibuya Hajime, Suzuya Aki, Fushimi Gaku and Kenmochi Toya. Another is Deroroki, with Higuchi Kaede and Todoroki Kyoko.

Characteristics

His official backstory describes a 4,000-year-old vampire who lives in a luxurious castle deep in remote mountains. He holds high status among his own kind and speaks and acts in a pompous, overbearing way. Underneath, he is described as timid and clumsy, and he panics openly when someone approaches him carelessly. His design has light purple skin, spiky white hair, a white beard, red eyes and pointed ears. Viewers often point out that his fairly high-pitched voice contrasts with this imposing look, and he is regarded as a capable singer. He is also known as a big fan of virtual YouTubers. He often lurks and comments in other streamers' chats and keeps public music playlists filled with VTuber songs. His oshi mark, an emoji fans use to show support, combines a European castle (🏰) and a full moon (🌕).
