Career
In his official profile, Kenmochi is a sixteen-year-old high school student in his school's kendo club. According to his profile, he decided to audition for Nijisanji after watching the livestreams of Tsukino Mito. Sources give slightly different debut dates in early to mid March 2018. Several VTuber databases list his YouTube debut as March 14, 2018. He joined Nijisanji's second generation along with Ienaga Mugi, Mononobe Alice, Morinaka Kazaki, Fushimi Gaku, Gilzaren III, Suzuka Utako, Fumino Tamaki, Ichigo Ushimi, and Yuhi Riri.
He revealed a 3D model in a YouTube livestream in October 2018 and showed an updated 3D model in October 2019. In February 2020 he performed at the Fukuoka stop of Nijisanji's "Shout in the Rainbow!" tour of Japan. He held his first solo live event on December 9, 2020. He later became a member of the Nijisanji unit ROF-MAO, together with Kagami Hayato, Fuwa Minato, and Kaida Haru. He also appears as a character in the anime adaptation of Virtual-san Looking. He is still active and has marked his eighth anniversary with a call-in stream.
Activities
Streaming style
Kenmochi mainly streams on YouTube, focusing on subculture talk and video games. His streams usually start around midnight, often a few minutes late, and many last about an hour. He talks for most of that time, commenting on what is on screen or on his own knowledge of the topic. He streams less often than many other VTubers, sometimes going a week or more without a stream. Commentators still describe him as a long-standing and influential member of Nijisanji. He has been reported to set stream archives to unlisted when he thinks they fall short of his standards.
Horror games and collaborations where he teases other members often bring out a more chaotic side of him. He has also been active on other platforms, including TwitCasting and Niconico.
Characteristics
His character is presented as a low-key, serious kendo club student, but he is known for a sharp tongue and his "endearing rudeness." Early in his career, Tsukino Mito wrote his name in a tweet as "Rikiya" by mistake, mixing up the similar kanji for "tou" and "riki." Other VTubers and viewers still use the nickname "Kenmochi Rikiya." His streams have developed a culture of mutual teasing and trolling with viewers. He has said that he does not mind this as long as it is entertaining. Within Nijisanji he is also regarded as kind, although he does not draw attention to it. A female version of him called "Kenmochi Toko" was created by Morinaka Kazaki. He has the same character illustrator as several other Nijisanji members, including Shibuya Hajime and Sister Claire.
