Kanda Shoichi

Kanda Shoichi (Japanese: 神田笑一) is a male Japanese VTuber affiliated with NIJISANJI. He debuted in 2018 as part of NIJISANJI SEEDs. He is known for his game streams and singing, and for his on-stream rapport with fellow NIJISANJI member Gundo Mirei.

Career

Kanda Shoichi debuted on YouTube on 9 August 2018. He joined the first batch of NIJISANJI SEEDs' second generation, together with Hina Asuka, Harusaki Air, Amemori Sayo, Takamiya Rion, Naruto Kogane and Maimoto Keisuke. SEEDs was a separate branch of the NIJISANJI project. Its first generation included Ryushen, Sister Claire, Suzuki Masaru and Uzuki Kou.

On 13 December 2018, Ichikara Inc. announced that NIJISANJI Gamers and NIJISANJI SEEDs would merge into NIJISANJI by the end of that month. From then on, Kanda has been an official member of NIJISANJI itself. He reached his first YouTube milestones in December 2018 and kept growing his channel steadily through 2019 and later years.

Fan sources describe his early days as fairly quiet, as was common for male members of the agency at the time. His popularity rose later, largely because of his frequent banter with Gundo Mirei, who debuted after him. Viewers often compare their dynamic to an old married couple. He has since become well known for his gaming, his singing and his wide network of collaborations within NIJISANJI.

According to his official profile, Kanda is a 21-year-old university student studying broadcasting. He enjoys talking to people but sometimes says harsh things, then thinks "I went too far!" and regrets it, which shows that he is sincere underneath. Merchandise profiles also say that he worries about his narrow, slanted eyes. Fan descriptions call him kind, humorous and good-natured. He is usually mature and laid-back, but he can turn indignant and childish around certain colleagues, Gundo Mirei most of all. His design has short blonde hair swept up in the middle and a black-and-grey hooded jacket with a badge showing a green creature's silhouette.
