Career

Shellin Burgundy's YouTube channel was created on August 20, 2019, and he held his debut stream on September 21, 2019. In it he said he had opened a detective agency but no clients had come, which was why he had started on YouTube. He debuted in the same 2019 wave as Sukoya Kana and Hayase Sou, and the three are known together as the "Tulip Group". He reached 10,000 YouTube subscribers on his debut day and 50,000 nine days later.

On February 2, 2020, he released his first cover song, "Fixer" by nulut. The next day he began streaming on niconico as well. On April 25, 2020, he revealed a new outfit to mark an earlier channel milestone, and on June 4 he debuted a 2.0 version of his Live2D model. In September 2020, NIJISANJI announced that he would appear on its cover album Prismatic Colors, released on October 28, 2020. On that album he sang "Memeshikute" by Golden Bomber with Kenmochi Toya and other members. On December 8, 2020, he made an unofficial 3D appearance at the Lever Gacha Daipan live event at Zepp Yokohama.

In later years he was a commentator for the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe run at the speedrunning event RTA in Japan Winter 2023. In January 2025, VTuber news outlet MoguLive reported that he had earned a Class 2 large vehicle license, which allows the holder to drive buses commercially, and that he had explained how this came about on stream.

Activities

Streaming style

He mainly streams games and free talk. Racing games, especially the Mario Kart series, are a regular part of his content. He organizes the "Mario Kart NIJISANJI Cup" (Japanese: マリカにじさんじ杯), a tournament among NIJISANJI members that has been held at least seven times. More recent streams have included Mario Kart World and Forza Horizon titles. Since 2020 he has been the narrator for the weekly game variety show Yashiro & Sasaki's Lever Gacha Daipan, featuring Sasaki Saku, on the official NIJISANJI channel.

Characteristics

According to NIJISANJI's official description, he is a young man who chases the world's "mysteries" and runs a modest detective business; he is capable, but for some reason never gets many clients. In his design he has medium-length black hair worn in a side ponytail, goldenrod-yellow eyes, and a monocle over his right eye. He wears a coat inspired by detectives of an earlier era, a red cravat, and dark lace-up boots. He usually appears cool and collected, but his streams are known for his loud, comedic delivery. His fans are called "suspects", matching the detective theme, and his emoji mark is a face with a monocle.
