Career

Amemori Sayo made her YouTube debut on 12 August 2018 with a series of short videos that followed a surreal story. She joined as part of the first batch of the second generation of Nijisanji SEEDs. Other members of that batch were Kanda Shoichi, Hina Asuka, Harusaki Air, Takamiya Rion, Naruto Kogane and Maimoto Keisuke.

On 13 December 2018, Ichikara Inc., the company that operated Nijisanji at the time, announced that Nijisanji Gamers and Nijisanji SEEDs would merge into the main Nijisanji branch by the end of that month. After the merger, Sayo became an official member of Nijisanji itself. Her YouTube channel grew steadily through 2018 and 2019. She later received a 3D model, which she first showed during the Nijisanji Rock Festival in 2021.

Activities

Streaming style

Sayo's uploads are less conventional than those of most corporate VTubers. Her videos often include real-life images, visual or performance tricks, short-form humor and other oddities, and many of them tell short, surreal stories. She does not livestream often, and her streams usually take place late at night or early in the morning. Her content includes free talk, gaming and singing. She has appeared as a guest on the late-night radio-style talk show hosted by Maimoto Keisuke and Joe Rikiichi, where she answered questions from listeners. She has also told stories during her own broadcasts, such as an account of a hospital visit after she fainted and hit her head. On her official X account, she notes that fan works shared under her fan-art tag may be used in her broadcasts. Viewers can send comments and other messages using a separate tag.

Characteristics

Sayo's character is a 17-year-old second-year high school student who serves on the library committee. Her official merchandise profile says that, despite her quiet appearance, she is surprisingly talkative. She is also a member of the broadcast club, where she talks with a completely different energy when her face is not shown. When she gets nervous, she tends to touch the scarf of her school uniform. She has short black bobbed hair with a small side ponytail tied with blue and purple beads, and greyish eyes. She wears a black Japanese school uniform with a red ribbon, dark grey tights and black dress shoes, and she also has a summer uniform outfit. On her X profile, she describes herself as a high school girl active in the virtual world.
