Career
Hotaru's YouTube channel was created on September 17, 2024, and her Twitch channel on September 18, 2024. VShojo teased the four members of its new generation in a series of posts on its main and Japanese X accounts over the four days before the reveal. On November 14–15, 2024, the agency announced VShojo NOVA, its first full Japanese generation. Hotaru was in the group with Hestia Happiness, Yutori Peke and Okamoto Nagi.
The debut dates were announced the day after the reveal. Hotaru debuted on November 22, 2024, at 7 PM JST, with Hestia Happiness debuting later the same evening. Okamoto Nagi and Yutori Peke followed on November 23.
In 2025, VShojo faced reports that it had failed to pay its talents. The remaining members resigned, and most of them immediately became independent VTubers with control of their own intellectual property. Hotaru, Yutori Peke and Okamoto Nagi said at the time that talks about their own situation were still going on. Her departure from VShojo is listed as July 23, 2025. Since then she has kept working alongside the other members of her generation as NOVA.
Activities
Streaming style
Hotaru streams in Japanese on both Twitch and YouTube, and her channel description says she streams every day. She also has a separate YouTube channel for stream archives. When she debuted, coverage said she planned to focus mostly on long-form games and would also play many card games. Directories list her content as free talk, gaming and singing. Her channels link to a TuneCore Japan artist page, a BOOTH shop, a pixivFANBOX page, and accounts on Instagram and TikTok.
Characteristics
According to her official lore, Hotaru is a demon (Leviathan) who was so taken with the freedom and adventure of the seas in shonen manga that she suddenly quit her job as an admiral ruling Hell's oceans. She left that overworked life behind and moved to the human world to enjoy all of its entertainment. There she set up a "demon headquarters" and started streaming with a crew of assistants. Her fan name, Zatsuyou Shokun, refers to this crew of helpers. Her former boss wants her back at work, so she has been declared wanted across the world. Bounty hunters keep coming after her, but she escapes across the human seas with her pet Behemoth.
She has sky-blue eyes, wavy shoulder-length crimson hair and dark red markings around her eyes. She wears a layered black dress with a crimson ruffled hem, a gold ornament with a magenta eye at her neck, and a black feathered hat with gold trim. Her lore describes her red hair as her trademark, shining in the dark night. Her emoji motifs are a snake and an anchor, matching her sea-serpent and naval theme.
