Career

Yozora Mel opened her Twitter account on 16 April 2018 and created her YouTube channel later that April. Her introduction video went up on 13 May 2018. Her first upload was a cover of "Valentine's Kiss," followed by a channel trailer. Unlike most later VTubers, she did not hold a formal debut stream. She was part of hololive's first generation, together with Aki Rosenthal, Natsuiro Matsuri, Shirakami Fubuki and Akai Haato.

On 6 November 2019 she announced that her channel had been demonetized because of a song she had performed. Like other hololive members affected by the same issue, she deleted or made private most of her ASMR videos. She debuted a New Year 2D costume on 1 January 2020. On 24 January 2020 she appeared in her 3D idol outfit at "hololive 1st fes. Nonstop Story," together with the other members up to the third generation.

From around December 2019 to June 2020 her channel was largely inactive. She and hololive later explained that she had been the target of harassment. After a full break that began in early April, she announced on 23 June that she would continue her activities, and she returned to streaming on 24 June. Her 2D model was later updated with more facial expressions and better hair and accessory movement, and she received more costumes over the following years.

On 10 January 2023 she streamed with Watson Amelia of hololive English and Oozora Subaru. Fans welcomed the stream as a collaboration across generations and branches.

On 16 January 2024 Cover Corporation announced that it had terminated its contract with Yozora Mel, effective immediately. The company said she had broken her contract by leaking information she had obtained from the company to third parties. The Japanese version of the announcement stated that the decision was made in agreement with her. Her last broadcast was on 14 January 2024. Management then posted a final message from her on her account, in which she said she regretted her actions. Her channel and account were scheduled for deletion in February 2024.

Activities

Streaming style

Her content consisted mainly of ASMR, free talk, gaming, singing and watch-alongs. Her ASMR streams and chats, which many viewers found intimate, became a defining part of her channel. Her cover of "Disco" was posted on 9 March 2020 and became the first video on her channel to pass one million views.

Characteristics

Yozora Mel was described as sweet, calm and caring. She spoke politely and quietly and often put others before herself. Her vampire side showed more in some content, especially in collaborations with her close friend Yuzuki Choco. Her nicknames included "Merumeru" and "Yozora Melto."
