Usada Pekora

Usada Pekora (Japanese: 兎田ぺこら) is a Japanese virtual YouTuber affiliated with Hololive Production as a member of hololive Japan's 3rd Generation, "hololive Fantasy." She is one of the most-watched members of Hololive and one of the most-watched female streamers, and she is known for streaming Japanese role-playing games and Minecraft prank content.

Career

Usada Pekora was one of the five original members of hololive Fantasy, Hololive's 3rd generation of streamers. The other members were Uruha Rushia, Houshou Marine, Shiranui Flare and Shirogane Noel. Her debut stream took place on 17 July 2019. In a 2020 interview, she said that idol Momoko Tsugunaga of Berryz Kobo inspired her to join Hololive.

On 13 December 2020, she reached 1,000,000 YouTube subscribers. To mark the occasion, she held a stream in which she told her mother that she worked as a virtual YouTuber. In May 2022, she went on hiatus because of voice-related health concerns, and she returned in June 2022.

For 2023, the Year of the Rabbit, Pekora launched a promotional theme called the Human Rabbitality Project, also nicknamed the Rabbit Plan. The project began with an announcement stream and was followed by her single "Zenjinrui Usagika Keikaku!". It included products and marketing collaborations, notably with Milky and Bandai, and a life-size figure of Pekora was produced. The project ended with her first solo live concert, "1st Usada PekoLive -USAGI the MEGAMI!!-", held at Ariake Arena. According to the streaming data site Stream Charts, she was the most-watched female streamer of 2023 by watch hours.

Streaming style

Writing for Fortune, Nicholas Gordon described Pekora as best known for streaming Japanese role-playing games and Minecraft prank content. Her streams have also led to appearances in commercial video games. In the 2022 game Dragon Quest Treasures, a monster named Pekotte is based on her and voiced by her. On 11 August 2023, she was added as a playable character in the Hololive fan game Idol Showdown.

In May 2025, she was announced as a cameo in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, where she appears as an NPC prepper. Players who complete her side quests receive a hat modeled after her viewer mascot, the Nousagi. The hat greatly boosts stamina and makes the main character, Sam, end his sentences with her "-peko" verbal tic. Her appearance in the game came about because director Hideo Kojima personally enjoyed her streams.

Characteristics

Pekora's character has a rabbit motif. Her Live2D model has rabbit ears, blue hair and carrot-shaped hair ornaments. Yuuki Hagure designed and illustrated the model, and rariemonn rigged it. She ends her sentences with the verbal tic "-peko," which became well-known enough to be used in Death Stranding 2. Her viewers are represented by a mascot called the Nousagi, meaning "wild rabbit."
