Shigure Ui

Shigure Ui (Japanese: しぐれうい) is an independent Japanese VTuber, illustrator, manga artist, light novel character designer and musician. She is best known for designing Oozora Subaru of hololive, for illustrating the Osamake light novels, and for her song "Shukusei!! Loli Kami Requiem", which went viral in 2023.

Career

Shigure Ui was born in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, and studied art. She worked at a game development company and then became a freelance illustrator. She created her Twitter account in August 2009 and has worked as an illustrator since December 2015. Her earliest known online credit is a Kasane Teto song from August 2013.

In August 2018 she began designing Oozora Subaru, a hololive VTuber who debuted in September of that year. Ui created her own YouTube channel on September 16, 2018, the same day Subaru debuted. Before streaming on her own channel, she appeared on other VTubers' channels, starting with a stream on Subaru's channel in November 2018. Subaru encouraged her to become a VTuber, and Ui made her official YouTube debut on May 18, 2019. She later drew a second outfit for her Live2D avatar, and a major model update rigged by rariemonn followed in March 2020.

From October 2 to October 28, 2020, she held her first solo art exhibition at pixiv WAEN GALLERY in Tokyo. Her 2022 song "Shukusei!! Loli Kami Requiem" appeared on her debut solo album, The Rain Doesn't Stop Yet. It went viral in September 2023 after its music video was released. She said she was surprised by how quickly the song and her channel grew. In 2024 she designed Sendo Yuuhi, who debuted with VSPO! on May 2 of that year. She has never joined an agency, yet she has performed at major venues, including a sold-out concert at K Arena Yokohama on May 30.

Streaming style

Her streams mostly consist of chatting with viewers, drawing and playing video games. Her art streams include long endurance drawing sessions. She often appears as a guest on hololive members' streams, especially with Oozora Subaru and Sakura Miko. Ui, Subaru and Maimoto Keisuke are known together as the "Oozora Family."

Characteristics

Viewers often mention Ui's calm, relaxing voice. Fans call her "Ui-mama" because she designed Subaru, and she has referred to the characters she designs as her "daughters." She is independent, but many people link her with hololive because she designed Subaru and collaborates often with its talents. Her music videos feature a nine-year-old version of herself. She has said her mother got her drawing at a young age, and she names Arina Tanemura, Noizi Ito and Cocoa Fujiwara as major influences. She lives with Java sparrows. In 2021 she appeared on the NHK Educational TV program Numa ni Hamattekiitemita.
