Career

Cover Corporation set up hololive as its female VTuber agency in 2018. In December 2019, it combined hololive with its other entertainment brands under the name hololive production. The fifth generation of the main Japanese branch debuted in August 2020. Omaru Polka held her debut livestream on 16 August 2020, alongside fellow fifth-generation members Yukihana Lamy, Momosuzu Nene, Shishiro Botan, and Mano Aloe.

After her debut, she previewed her first original song, "HOLOGRAM CIRCUS". The full version came out on 26 December 2020. Around the end of 2020, hololive also announced that she would receive a New Year's outfit in early 2021. On 10 January 2021, she revealed the 3D model of her character. Since then, she has used it in 3D performances and other content.

Shortly after her debut, she met the VTuber Luca Polka on Twitter. The two later formed a duo called "Double Polka" based on their shared name.

Activities

Streaming style

Polka plays games on her channel fairly often, but she is better known for chat streams, karaoke, and miscellaneous variety content. Her streams are often described as chaotic. She talks quickly and jumps between topics, sometimes faster than native Japanese viewers can follow, and she is easily distracted during games. She can hold long karaoke streams, including three-hour sessions with almost no breaks. She often uses a variety of voices in videos, streams, and songs, and once used seven different voices in a single video.

She keeps small props and noisemakers within reach to support her jokes, including bells, a rotary phone, a glockenspiel, a vibraslap, and rubber chickens. She has also been known to hold convincing conversations with herself on stream. Her loading screens feature a call-and-response greeting. Viewers ask "Poruka oruka?" ("Where's Polka?"), and she answers "Poruka oru yo!" ("Polka is here!"). Fans often reply to her milestones with the phrase "POLGRATULATIONS".

Characteristics

In her official character profile, Polka is a circus performer who joined hololive hoping to become the ringmaster of the VTuber world. She enjoys wowing audiences with acrobatics, and the profile presents her occasional mistakes as part of her charm. Her design is a fennec fox girl with light blond, shoulder-length hair and purple eyes. Her original outfit is based on a carnival ringmaster's costume: a red, white, blue, and gold dress with a layered skirt and thigh-high socks. It also includes a clown nose accessory. Card suit symbols (diamonds, hearts, spades, and clubs) decorate her dress, face, and hair.

Polka is known for her silliness and her emotional swings. She can go from very loud and energetic to quiet and subdued within moments. Her laugh has been compared to that of hololive member Usada Pekora. Despite her circus persona, she has shown on stream that she is not good at juggling or walking on a balance beam. By her own account, she is easily affected by the weather, especially atmospheric pressure. Fellow hololive members often tease and prank her in her chat.
