Nakiri Ayame

Nakiri Ayame (Japanese: 百鬼あやめ) is a female Japanese VTuber affiliated with hololive, the VTuber agency of Cover Corporation, as a member of its second generation. She is known for her kimono-clad oni character, her frequent laughter and her streams of multiplayer games.

Career

Nakiri Ayame's Twitter account opened on 1 August 2018, and her YouTube channel was created on 12 August of that year. She did not stream on the channel until her introduction stream on 3 September 2018. She debuted as part of hololive's second generation with Minato Aqua, Murasaki Shion, Yuzuki Choco and Oozora Subaru. Minato Aqua later left the generation. The second generation followed the agency's first generation, which debuted between May and June 2018.

On 14 May 2019, she announced that she would receive a 3D model, and she showed it for the first time in a special stream on 17 May 2019. In November 2019, her channel passed 100,000 subscribers and she received her first alternate outfit. On 27 November 2019, she was one of the characters in hololive's collaboration with the mobile game Azur Lane. She sang with other hololive members on "Beyond the Stage," a song linked to the agency's second concert, "hololive 2nd fes. Beyond the Stage," held in December 2020.

Like other early hololive members, she received an updated Live2D model, which she showed on 31 July 2020. Her channel's audience grew sharply over 2020. She is also listed as a member of the unit Irohanihohetto AyaFubuMi and has appeared in the hololive short series Holo no Graffiti.

Streaming style

She streams mainly on YouTube and also has channels on Twitch, Bilibili and OpenRec. Her streams include karaoke and collaborations with other VTubers, but many of them are online multiplayer games such as Apex Legends, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Minecraft. Her early streams also included Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Splatoon. She is known for liking first-person shooters, and her quick reflexes in shooters such as Apex Legends have been compared to those of Minato Aqua.

Characteristics

Ayame is portrayed as a young oni girl in a kimono from a demon-world academy. In her backstory, she serves as student council president and claims to be more than 1,500 years old. In the character's story, she likes playing pranks and teasing people with will-o'-the-wisps. Although she speaks to humans as if they are beneath her, she is described as friendly and playful and treats all of her viewers alike. She refers to herself with the old-fashioned pronoun "Yo," often ends her sentences in a princess-like way, and is known for laughing easily and making Japanese puns.

She has said that before becoming a VTuber she was a loner who had trouble dealing with others, and that Houshou Marine inspired her to start. Fan sources say she tends to warm up to new people slowly. They also say that over time at hololive she formed close bonds with other members and became an inspiration to later members such as Yukihana Lamy. Other details she has shared include poor eyesight, wearing glasses, and a pet cat named Jirusuke.
