Career
Murasaki Shion held her debut stream on 17 August 2018 as one of the five members of hololive's 2nd Generation, alongside Minato Aqua, Nakiri Ayame, Yuzuki Choco and Oozora Subaru. Cover CEO Motoaki Tanigo has said he hired her because he found her slightly mischievous side charming. She debuted her 3D model on 12 May 2019, at a time when many hololive members were receiving 3D models. In December 2019 she hosted a hololive tournament for Pokémon Sword and Shield. Her YouTube channel passed one million subscribers in April 2022, and she marked the milestone with a singing stream.
In May 2021 she stopped streaming for a few weeks. She later explained that she had been bedridden with a sore throat and that the graduation of Kiryu Coco had affected her physical and mental health. On 21 December 2023 it was announced that, after consultation with her, she would pause most of her activities. She uploaded her first video after the hiatus in April 2024, a cover of "Bling-Bang-Bang-Born". She returned to live streaming in August 2024 and said that Minato Aqua's planned graduation had prompted the decision.
On 6 March 2025 she announced in a livestream that she would graduate from hololive on 26 April, citing creative differences with the agency. Tanigo, several hololive members and former member Sakamata Chloe took part in her graduation stream, which drew around 369,000 concurrent viewers at its peak. She was the second 2nd Generation member to graduate, after Minato Aqua. Streams Chart ranked her as the most popular VTuber of 2025, with 355,000 peak viewers.
Activities
Streaming style
Let's Plays were one of her main types of stream, including GeoGuessr, Rust and Uno. She often streamed with Minato Aqua and Nakiri Ayame as the trio Manji-gumi. MoguraVR described her ASMR streams as full of comedic bits. A joint ASMR stream with Oozora Subaru was singled out for slapstick content that departed from usual ASMR conventions. Casual chatting streams and karaoke cover streams were also a regular part of her schedule.

Characteristics
Her character lore describes her as a child who appears around the Underworld Academy, though she claims to be an adult. She also calls herself a talented dark magician of noble birth. Niji Kusano of Kai-You called her the embodiment of the quintessential "little witch" persona. He wrote that "Mage of Violet" captured the innocence and playfulness of her streams, and Dengeki Online said the song had become closely tied to her identity. MoguraVR noted that she kept her signature style through to her graduation concert.
