Career
Houshou Marine debuted on 11 August 2019. She was the last member of hololive Fantasy to debut, after Usada Pekora, Uruha Rushia, Shirogane Noel and Shiranui Flare. Her official character bio says she calls herself the Captain ("Senchou") of the Houshou Pirates. She does not actually own a ship and hopes her career will raise the money for one, so she is described as only a cosplayer. Her Live2D avatar was designed by Akasa Ai and rigged by Ilie Tou.
She first became interested in VTubers through Kaguya Luna, one of the early pioneers of the medium. She began to think about becoming a VTuber herself after she became a fan of Nijisanji's Tsukino Mito. She has named Shirakami Fubuki and Minato Aqua as the inspirations for her decision to audition for hololive.
In January 2024 she became the most-subscribed Japanese VTuber on YouTube, overtaking Kizuna AI. Later she became the second VTuber to reach a major subscriber milestone, after Gawr Gura of hololive English. In December 2023 she performed at Fuji TV's annual FNS Music Festival. She was the first VTuber invited to the show, and she was invited again the following year. Her first solo concert, "Ahoy!! You're All Pirates", took place on 7–8 December 2024 at K-Arena Yokohama.

Characteristics
Marine's character is a self-styled pirate captain, and she calls herself "Senchou". Her official age is 17, but viewers often joke about her as a mature woman because she frequently talks about dated topics. She also discusses adult-oriented topics openly on stream, such as browsing doujinshi magazines. She has appeared in many video game collaborations, including World of Warships, Neptunia Virtual Stars, Touhou Spell Bubble, White Cat Project and Rift of the NecroDancer.
