Career

Hiodoshi Ao was one of the five original members of ReGLOSS, the first unit in hololive DEV_IS. The branch's stated theme is growing together with everyone by taking on new challenges, and it focuses on group projects, singing and idol performances. The other members were Otonose Kanade, Ichijou Ririka, Juufuutei Raden and Todoroki Hajime. The unit released its first single, "Shunkan Heartbeat", on September 4, 2023. Ao was the first member to hold a debut stream, on September 9, 2023.

On September 17, 2023, she released her first solo cover, "Dokuzu" by NAKISO. On October 10, 2023, she joined the rest of ReGLOSS for the unit's first group cover, "REALiZE" by LiSA. ReGLOSS held its first online 3D concert on September 28, 2024, and released its self-titled first studio album in November 2024. Ao later got her own 3D model and planned a birthday concert. In February 2025 she released her only original solo song, "Club Blue Fire".

In March 2025 Cover Corporation said Ao had been feeling unwell and that a doctor had diagnosed her with adjustment disorder. She went on hiatus to focus on her recovery, which meant she missed the ReGLOSS 3D live concert "Sakura Mirage" on March 30, 2025. While she was away, the unit performed with four members. Before the hiatus she explained the break in a stream lasting almost an hour. Her last solo stream was on March 21, 2025, and her cover music videos that were already planned still came out. Her last released song was a cover of "MoeChakkaFire".

Cover Corporation announced that she graduated on October 3, 2025, without a graduation stream. The company thanked her for about two years of activity in hololive DEV_IS and hololive production. Fan mail was accepted until October 31, 2025, and channel memberships stayed open until January 31, 2026. Her manager posted a farewell message from her on her official X account. Her YouTube channel and social media accounts were left online after she graduated.

Activities

Streaming style

Ao's streams often featured her drawing skills, in line with her manga-artist character. She was also a dedicated VRChat user. She bought VR equipment in 2019 and has said that Sword Art Online and Harry Potter first got her interested in virtual reality. She took the view that VTubers should be part of virtual worlds and move around them freely. On stream she explored VRChat worlds and promoted the work of VR creators, which connected the VTuber and VRChat communities.

Characteristics

Ao's official profile describes her as a manga artist who loves solitude, or at least is seen that way by the people around her. In practice she presents herself as an enthusiastic otaku. Her cool appearance and androgynous style led many viewers to discuss her character's gender. Her bio plays on this: it asks whether readers think she is a cute girl and then says she is actually "Ao-kun." Her fans are called Dokusha, the Japanese word for "readers", which fits the manga-artist theme.
