Career

Ao Hibiki started her activities on February 14, 2018. She was one of many virtual YouTubers who appeared in Japan in early 2018, part of a trend that grew after Kizuna AI began making content on YouTube in late 2016. From the start she presented herself as an aspiring idol who wanted to perform and release music as a virtual entertainer.

On August 27, 2018, avex, a major Japanese entertainment company, announced that she would make a double debut with the company as an idol and as a lyricist and composer. The announcement presented her as both a performer and a creator who writes and composes songs. This set her apart from VTubers who only perform songs written by others.

Besides her video and music work, she has hosted a radio program called Hibiki Ao wo Oen Suru Radio (響木アオを応援するラジオ). The show is dedicated to supporting her activities and runs on Anitama.com, a media outlet covering anime and voice acting. She has also been credited for acting work, which extends her activities beyond online video into other media.
