Career

Cover Corporation, the company that manages hololive, held a VTuber audition from 2 May to 13 May 2018. The audition was looking for people with experience in live streaming and video uploading who wanted to try working as VTubers. The character designs and names for the five open spots, which later debuted as the 1st Generation, were made public when the audition began. The artist Haruyuki Nijyou illustrated Akai Haato's design, and Pompu Chou later created her 3D model. Her generation-mates include Natsuiro Matsuri, Shirakami Fubuki and Aki Rosenthal.

Her Twitter account opened on 21 May 2018, and her YouTube channel was created on 24 May 2018. She made her debut stream on 2 June 2018.

On 27 September 2020, Cover suspended Akai Haato and Kiryu Coco, a hololive Japan 4th Generation member, from all livestreaming and Twitter activity for three weeks. While showing their YouTube channel analytics, the two had listed Taiwan as a sovereign state, which drew criticism from viewers in Mainland China. Haato returned to activities on 19 October 2020. On 10 February 2021, her channel passed one million subscribers. She was the eighth hololive member to reach that mark.

She was hospitalized right after the hololive 4th fes. concert on 18 March 2023 and paused her hololive activities. She returned to streaming on 1 November 2023. During a stream on 28 October 2025, she made several comments about her personal life and VTuber career. According to Cover, these comments were taken out of context and spread online as rumors, and other talents were then targeted with speculation and defamation. Cover said the comments were made while she was mentally unstable and announced that she would go on hiatus from 31 October 2025 to focus on her wellbeing. In April 2026, Cover announced that she would gradually resume activities, starting with pre-recorded videos and music releases.

Streaming style

Akai Haato has livestreamed since June 2018. Her streams are mostly chatting, gaming and singing. Outside of livestreams, she uploads short comedy skits, meme videos and cooking content to her YouTube channel. She has also released music, including as part of the Hololive Idol Project.

Characteristics

Akai Haato studied in Australia and, for a short time, in the Philippines until December 2020. Because of this, she is one of the few members of hololive's main Japanese branch who speaks English. Her nickname Haachama is used widely alongside her full name, including in the name of her YouTube channel, HAACHAMA Ch.
