Peanuts-kun (Japanese: ピーナッツくん) is an independent Japanese VTuber and rapper who has been active since July 2017. He is known for his peanut-shaped character design, the comedy web animation series Oshare ni Naritai! Peanuts-kun, and his hip-hop music.

Career

Peanuts-kun's YouTube channel opened in late June 2017 under the title of his web animation series. His activity as a virtual YouTuber started in July 2017, and database listings give July 4, 2017 as his debut date. He started out as the main character of Oshare ni Naritai! Peanuts-kun, a comedy web animation series. He later took up the usual activities of a virtual YouTuber, such as live streams and collaborations, while continuing to release videos on the same channel. He has always worked independently and has never belonged to an agency.

Peanuts-kun has also appeared outside his own channel. He is listed among the characters in the television anime Virtual-san Looking, which featured many virtual YouTubers. In 2023, SEGA announced that Samba de Amigo: Party Central for the Nintendo Switch, released on August 29, 2023, would include a free costume based on Peanuts-kun. The costume was announced only for the Japanese release. He also has a large range of official merchandise, including birthday tie-in goods and items sold through limited collaborations with retail and leisure businesses.

Streaming style

Peanuts-kun's content mixes absurdist comedy with music. His channel combines episodes and shorts from his animation series with live streams, music releases and collaborations. His streams include watch-along broadcasts of sporting events, such as a stream supporting Japan during a FIFA World Cup match against the Netherlands. He often works with the VTuber Ponpoko, and the two are known as the duo PokoPea (ぽこピー). The duo's name also appears on jointly branded merchandise and event collaborations. He usually holds an anniversary stream around his July 2 birthday each year.
